On Saturday afternoon after waiting for the rains to clear we made the long journey to the Iwashimizu Hachiman-gu, a beautiful Shinto shrine high up in the Kyoto mountains...
Arriving mid afternoon we took the cable car up to the top, stopping briefly to take a few shots...
As beautiful as the shrine is, we were here for The Red Bull Holy Ride, a downhill MTB contest where the riders race down the shrine steps...
After negotiating our way back down the shrine we settled at the bottom to watch the action play out on the big screens...
Due to the crowds and set up of the course it was kind of difficult to get any real action shots, thankfully Red Bull and J-Sports had the whole course covered with cameras...
This was probably the closest to a real live action shot that we got...
After each run there was the media scrum...
Then the final run...
And more media scrums...
A unique event in a very unique setting. We won't spoil things by revealing who won what as Red Bull usually release a highlights video from these events. There is a gallery of real action shots already up on the Red Bull site here.
